RON JUDE /// LICK CREEK LINE         de | en

A few weeks ago Ron Jude visited my store. After we went through a number of books, he showed me the freshly printed sheets of ›Lick Creek Line‹ which he had brought from the printer. Very good photographs, but I was particularly impressed by the surprising twists in the sequence.

Now I already offer the book in my store for a while and seldom have I experienced such controversial reactions. Some are carried away by the book, others can´t get anything out of it. At least those who start browsing in the middle or at the end, have little chance to win in.

Because ›Lick Creek Line‹ goes a long way. Hidden beneath the dust jacket it is described. It is the route of a trapper, who traps pine marten for their pelts in a remote area of Idaho in the Western United States. While the anonymous trapper experienced and confidently checks his trap line, for us a kaleidoscope of barely interpretable impressions unfolds. The defining influence of nature on individuals, and the influence of individuals on nature. In detail and as a whole. Obvious, but incomprehensible.

Even more eerie is the supplement with Nicholas Muellner´s Saga ›No Such Place‹ about two abandoned mining settlements: ›You know that you live in a valley only when standing in shadow.‹
