Robert Adams has for many years photographed the western American landscape, but here brings together thirty-two pictures made in his own back yard. In them, he records the pleasures that a small dog and her human companions have found in a sanctuary less than fifty feet to a side. In his preface, the photographer gives us a metrical description of paradise from a dog’s point of view, a reply to those who might charge sentimentality, and an outline for a creation story. The book is at once amusing and serious, local and far-reaching. Its theme is gratitude.
